The Brissago Islands are tiny natural jewels set among the beautiful waters of Lake Maggiore. They are in the Swiss part of Lake Maggiore and are the northernmost islands among those in Lake Maggiore.
You can admire them from above while going up with the Cardada cable car and then at the top from the Cardada panoramic walkway.
We have just said that the Brissago Islands are the northernmost islands of Lake Maggiore and are in Switzerland. In fact, the Brissago Islands are not the only islands of Lake Maggiore because, on the Italian side, we have the Borromean Islands, Mother Island and Beautiful Island together with the Isola Superiore or more commonly called Fishermans Island, the Castles of Cannero and in front of Verbania Pallanza the islet of San Giovanni which however is a private island that cannot be visited.
The Brissago Islands are authentic botanical gardens. You can admire and enjoy the unique views of Lake Maggiore and admire different kinds of plants you wouldn’t usually find here in these areas.
In general, we talk about visiting the Brissago Islands, but we must specify that you can see the smallest island only from the boat when you pass in front because only one of the two islands can be visited: the Big Island.
