Discover the Unforgettable Benagil Cave, Beach, and Path to Marinha Beach in Algarve Portugal

Hey there, fellow explorers! Welcome to our incredible journey to Benagil Beach, cave, and the breathtaking path leading to one of the best beaches in Europe: Marinha Beach in Algarve, Portugal. Get ready to be amazed!

As you approach this beautiful destination, you might wonder where to park your car. Along the road, in front of the beach, there are a few parking spaces, but they tend to fill up quickly. However, don’t worry! A little further ahead, you’ll find a dedicated parking area that accommodates more vehicles.

Before we dive into this adventure, it’s worth mentioning that Benagil Beach offers a convenient amenity – a public restroom. Just in case of need…

In the meantime, I can tell you that if you are considering visiting the Algarve in Portugal, it’s time to add this stunning destination to your travel bucket list. Why? Well, let me give you three compelling reasons.

No, Gabriel, the restaurant maybe later. Now let’s go to explore!

Firstly, the beautiful Benagil Beach is a sight to behold. Its golden sands and crystal-clear turquoise waters make it the perfect spot to unwind and soak up the sun. Imagine yourself lounging on the beach, feeling the sand between your toes, and listening to the gentle lapping of the waves. Even though it was winter, thanks to the mild climate, we just couldn’t resist putting our feet in the water. Feet and not only! It was pure bliss and fun!

Secondly, just a stone’s throw away from the beach lies the famous Benagil Cave. This natural wonder will leave you in awe. As you venture inside, you’ll be surrounded by magnificent rock formations, with sunlight streaming through the openings above, creating a magical ambiance. It’s a truly breathtaking experience that will captivate your senses. The cave can be reached by embarking on a captivating boat tour along the coastline or from Benagil beach or venturing out on a thrilling kayaking adventure.

But that’s not all. The third reason to include Benagil in your itinerary is the gorgeous path that you can explore on foot. The first stop on your path is the Benagil Cave point, where you can see the cave from above the coast. As you hike along the coastline, you’ll be treated to spectacular views of the ocean, rugged cliffs, and hidden coves. It’s a journey filled with natural beauty and tranquility, offering an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

So, whether you’re a beach lover, an adventure seeker, or simply someone who appreciates the wonders of nature, Benagil has something for everyone. Don’t miss out on this unforgettable destination.

Winter Experience: As we step onto Benagil Beach during the winter season, the atmosphere instantly feels serene and peaceful. With very few people around, you can truly immerse yourself in the tranquility of this picturesque location. The empty golden sands stretch out before you, inviting you to take a leisurely stroll or simply bask in the calmness of the surroundings.

Summer Experience: Now, let’s fast-forward to the summer season. Benagil Beach transforms into a bustling hub of activity, attracting visitors from all around the world. Walking along the shore, you can feel the vibrant energy filling the air. The beach becomes a popular hotspot, with families, sun worshippers, and adventure seekers enjoying the sun, sand, and crystal-clear waters.

My Recommendation: Personally, I prefer visiting Benagil Beach during the winter or spring. It’s a time when the beach is quiet, not overcrowded, and not too hot. This allows you to explore the area without the scorching heat draining your energy. Plus, the water might be cold even in summer, so if you’re sensitive to the cold, it could hinder your swimming experience.

Now, Gabriel, it’s finally arrived your time, the time for food!

The renowned Benagil beach is famous for its Benagil cave. Boat excursions frequently depart from Benagil beach to take you inside the Benagil cave. Across from the beach is a road that bends sharply, with several parking spaces. Finding parking is relatively easy in winter but becomes slightly more challenging in summer due to the influx of tourists.

You can reach the famous Benagil Cave from Benagil Beach by walking. If you prefer not to go to Benagil Beach but still want to visit the cave, there is a parking lot available. Here is the location on Google Maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/DX6xpXfBaBivXjCj8.

The mentioned parking lot is located a short distance from the beach and can also be used as parking for anyone simply wanting to go to the beach.

To reach the Benagil Cave from above, you need to walk for five or ten minutes from the parking lot. The cave is located at this point on Google Maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/8NePbbh8yxihQWWQ6.

The path leading to Benagil Cave is unpaved, but it’s definitely worth visiting. If you enjoy a nice walk, once you’ve seen Benagil Cave, you can continue along another fascinating coastal route. This path is incredibly scenic and charming.

Even if you don’t plan on completing the entire route, I recommend not stopping right when you reach the entrance above the cave. In fact, if you go a little further, you’ll find another fantastic viewpoint, a true balcony overlooking Benagil Beach. From here, you can admire the cave from above and the natural arches that form the entrance of the famous Benagil Cave. Feel free to explore its wonders and immerse yourself in its beauty. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit the magnificent Benagil Cave, a truly awe-inspiring natural wonder.

What can you do in Benagil? First, explore the beach and dip your feet in the water. During the summer, you can even take a swim. Then, don’t miss out on the Benagil Cave. There are different ways to visit it:

  • By boat
  • By kayak. The best way to enjoy the Benagil Cave might be by kayak because it allows you to reach a small inner beach and directly touch the ocean water and sand with your feet. On the other hand, with a guided boat tour, you can’t get off the boat inside the cave, only admire its beauty, take photos or videos, and then exit.
  • On foot, you can admire the hole above the cave and continue the path to see the natural arch and the entrance to the cave.

Afterward, you can enjoy this amazing and extraordinary walk starting from Benagil and leading you to the renowned and famous Marinha Beach. The path consists of an unpaved trail, so wearing proper footwear like sneakers or hiking shoes is essential. Nevertheless, it’s suitable for people of all ages, both young and old. At the end of the route, you’ll reach a magnificent viewpoint overlooking Marinha Beach. Here’s the exact location on Google Maps where you can admire the beach: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ooiZAYLNts4KxrZg9.

If you arrive at Benagil Beach around 10:30 a.m., take a leisurely stroll, snap photos, and enjoy the scenery, you’ll be able to reach Marinha Beach by around 12:30 p.m. or 1 p.m. It’s a great idea to bring some food and have a picnic on the beach.

If you can’t reach Praia da Marinha on foot, you can also consider driving there since it’s just a few minutes away from Benagil. Please note that the fastest way to access the trail leading to the Benagil Cave is by taking the road near O Algar restaurant. I’ve provided the Google Maps link below, which will take you to the end of the stairs: https://maps.app.goo.gl/s5tPTeGFt4Nhbb597.

Be careful not to take the first set of stairs near the beach and O Algar restaurant, but rather the second set of stairs just after the curve.

It takes approximately 30 to 46 minutes to walk from Benagil Beach to Praia do Marinha.
