Prasonisi Rhodes: Where Two Seas Meet (Prices and Tips)
Welcome to Prasonisi, a place that is not just a seaside destination, but a true natural phenomenon at the southern extremity of the island of Rhodes. This unique location, sometimes transcribed as Prassonissi, is famous throughout the Mediterranean for a spectacular reason: it is here that the impetuous Aegean Sea and the calm Mediterranean Sea merge, creating a breathtaking landscape and a visible marine dividing line.
Thanks to a thin strip of sand (an isthmus) that connects Rhodes to a small islet, Prasonisi offers two bays with radically opposite marine conditions, making it the undisputed paradise for windsurfing and kitesurfing enthusiasts at any level. If you are looking for adventure on the board or simply an unforgettable panorama, Prasonisi is the stop that cannot be missed on your trip to Rhodes.
The Unique Meeting of Two Seas
The heart of the attraction is a thin isthmus of sand (a tombolo) that in summer, with low tide, fully emerges, connecting the island of Rhodes to a small rocky peninsula on which the Prassonissi lighthouse stands. This isthmus creates two distinct bays:
- West Side (Aegean Sea): Open to strong winds (the famous Meltemi), it is characterized by larger and constant waves. This is the preferred side for the more advanced kitesurfing and windsurfing.
- East Side (Mediterranean Sea): Here the water is generally calmer and flatter, ideal for beginners, for those who want to swim peacefully, or for the first surf lessons.
This contrast creates an incredible visual spectacle and offers perfect conditions for all levels of surfers in one place.
🚨 The Mistake You Must Not Make. Love the Wind!
If you are planning a visit, listen carefully: do not make the mistake of avoiding Prasonisi on a windy day! I know what you are thinking: you are used to consulting apps like Windy (just like we did after Mykonos) to avoid the Meltemi on other beaches. But here it is the exact opposite! It is the wind that creates the magic! If you go when it is calm, you miss the spectacle. Only when the wind blows with a sufficiently sustained force (generally from North-West) will you see the clear difference between the two seas. The Aegean gets rough, and the Mediterranean remains protected.
Golden Tip: To see the peculiarity of Prasonisi, you must go when the wind is right! Check the bulletins before getting in the car. Continue reading to deepen your knowledge of the wind and to go to Prasonisi at the most suitable time for you.
🧐 Prassonissi without Wind: when is it Still Worth Visiting
It is true that Prassonissi is the kingdom of sailing sports, but why should a visitor travel to the extreme tip of Rhodes on a calm day? Even in the absence of wind, the location merits the trip. With absolute calm:
- The Isthmus is Perfect for Non-Surfers: The sand isthmus emerges completely, turning into a splendid golden strip to walk on.
- Ideal Swimming: Both sides offer crystal-clear and calm waters, perfect for a relaxing swim and enjoying the sea without waves.
However, the true visual spectacle is achieved with a strong breeze.
The Magic of Separation: Wind and Panorama
The real feature that attracts thousands of curious people and photographers is the visual difference between the two seas. To witness the peak of this phenomenon—where you clearly see a rough side and a calm side—two conditions are necessary:
- Strong and Stable Wind: The famous Meltemi wind must blow, typical of the Aegean, which generally comes from North-West (NW).
- The Perfect Visual Effect: The Meltemi hits the Aegean Sea (western side) creating waves, foam, and a rough dark blue color. The Prassonissi peninsula acts as a natural shield, leaving the Mediterranean Sea (eastern side) relatively flat, with a clear turquoise color.
It is from the panoramic viewpoint (climbing slightly up the hill or walking on the isthmus) that this incredible contrast is best perceived, as if an invisible wall separated the two marine conditions.

🗓️ Predictability of the Wind: July and August vs. Other Months
The strength and consistency of the wind are fundamental for planning your visit or your surf activity.
July and August: The Predictable Wind (Thermal Meltemi)
During the high season, the Meltemi is the absolute protagonist and its onset is often thermal and predictable:
- Start: The wind tends to “come in” (to blow with intensity) around 10:00 – 11:00 in the morning.
- Peak: It reaches its maximum intensity in the early afternoon.
- Drop: It tends to drop gradually towards sunset. For a surfer, this means being able to plan sessions based on certain times. For the visitor, it means that the “separation of the seas” is almost guaranteed mid-day.
May, June, and September/October: Dependence on the Weather
In the low and mid-season months, the wind is less influenced by the summer thermal mechanism and becomes more meteorological.
- Necessary Monitoring: In these periods, the wind may be absent for days or, conversely, blow with extreme violence at any time.
- Useful Tip for Experienced Travelers: If, like many Italian travelers, you are already used to monitoring the Meltemi (perhaps from previous experiences in Mykonos or other Greek islands), you should apply the same attention for Prasonisi. It is essential to consult specialized apps for wind forecasts (like Windy or Windfinder) before undertaking the trip to the southern tip. Do not rely only on standard weather forecasts, but look specifically at the wind direction and intensity in knots/Beaufort.
🌬️ The Kingdom of the Wind: Kitesurf and Windsurf
If you are a fan of sailing sports, Prassonissi is your Mecca in the Mediterranean. The wind, almost a constant in summer (especially in July and August), is the key element. The crystal-clear waters, combined with the reliable wind, have transformed this strip of sand into the main surf center in Rhodes and one of the most renowned in Europe. You will find numerous surf schools and equipment rentals directly on the beach, making it accessible even to those who want to try these sports for the first time.
What to See Besides Surfing
Even if you don’t practice water sports, Prassonissi merits a visit for its wild and evocative landscape:
Walk to the Lighthouse: Walk the sand isthmus and climb the peninsula up to the Prassonissi Lighthouse. The walk offers a spectacular panoramic view of the meeting of the two seas. Keep in mind that, depending on the season and the tide, the isthmus may be covered by water (making the crossing possible only on foot with water up to the knees or in a wetsuit).
Unspoiled Nature: Being the most extreme tip of the island, the surrounding area is less developed than the northern coast, offering a taste of a wilder Rhodes.
Walk to the Lighthouse: A Spectacular Viewpoint
Walk the sand isthmus and climb the peninsula up to the Prassonissi Lighthouse. The walk offers a spectacular panoramic view of the meeting of the two seas.
- Duration and Terrain: The walk up to the lighthouse takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes round trip, depending on your pace. The path (as seen in the photo) is rough, dry dirt, and rocky in parts.
- ⚠️ Essential Safety Tip: Do not attempt this walk in flip-flops or sandals. Due to the rough terrain and isolated nature of the area, sturdy sneakers or walking shoes are highly recommended for safety and comfort.
- Isthmus Conditions: Keep in mind that, depending on the season and the tide, the isthmus may be covered by water (making the crossing possible only on foot with water up to the knees or in a wetsuit).

🚗 How to Get to Prassonissi
Prassonissi is located about 92 km south of Rhodes Town and about 40 km from Lindos.
- By Car/Scooter: It is the most convenient way. The road is well-maintained, although the trip from Rhodes Town can take about an hour and a half. Follow the signs for the village of Kattavia and then continue to the extreme tip.
- Bus: There are bus services, but they are less frequent than in other areas of the island.
- ⚠️ Practical Tip: Once you arrive, avoid parking your car directly on the sand of the isthmus, as the risk of getting stuck, especially with strong wind, is very high!
🚗 The Road for Prasonisi: Asphalted and Without Problems (Unlike Balos beach in Crete)
The 92 km road from Rhodes Town to Prasonisi is well-maintained and completely asphalted until the last stretch (where the parking lot is located). Unlike other wilder Greek beaches, you won’t have to face long dirt roads with your rental car. This eliminates one of the biggest logistical concerns for travelers!
2. The Personal Story: A Day in Prasonisi (October 6, 2025)
The Planning: You Don’t Go Randomly
The secret of our visit on Monday, October 6, 2025, was the strategic approach. The night before, I consulted the wind app (just like I did for Mykonos!) and saw that, although there were no very strong winds, the right wind (the one that blows from the North-West and generates the visual separation) was forecast for the early morning.
The decision was immediate: I warned everyone that we would leave at a specific time. Leaving from Lindos, we knew it would take about an hour to reach the southern tip. It was essential to arrive early to hit the moment when the wind, although not at its maximum, was blowing in the correct direction.
The Arrival and the Proof of the Wind
We reached Prasonisi around 10:00 in the morning. The first thing I tell you is: stop at the panoramic viewpoint! It is the essential point from which you distinctly see the beach that divides the two seas.
We were excited. Although the wind was not “extremely strong”—and therefore the visual difference between the two seas was not excessively marked—the fact that we caught the right wind still allowed us to observe the distinction between the slightly rough Aegean and the calmer Mediterranean. This shows that the wind is fundamental, even if it’s not a storm!
Soft Sand and the Morning Atmosphere
Arriving at 10:00 has its privileges. The parking lot (free and very large) was completely empty and the beach was almost deserted. This is the perfect time to enjoy the peace. We immediately headed to the Mediterranean Sea side.
The water is truly crystal clear and incredibly pleasant. The sand is so soft and fluffy that walking on the shore is pure relaxation. The water is shallow for a long stretch, so walking in is never a problem. We walked the entire Mediterranean beach in about 15 minutes.
The Choice of Sunbeds and the Flow of the Day
In the most sheltered area, there is a beach rental service, where you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas to best enjoy your day at the beach. There are only three rows of sunbeds, which leaves plenty of space for the free beach (which is the majority). Rental of sunbeds and umbrellas is handled in a typical Greek way: you take the spot, and then the attendant comes by to collect payment. At 10:00, we were among the first and got the front row!
Rental of sunbeds and umbrellas is handled in a typical Greek way: you take the spot, and then the attendant comes by to collect payment. At 10:00, we were among the first and got the front row!
Cost: €25 for two loungers and an umbrella (a price we were told is the same year-round).
The attendant arrived around 10:30. We thought the price was more than excellent, considering there’s no competition—it’s the only beach rental service for sunbeds and umbrellas on the entire beach.
Tip: There’s no price difference, so the front row is better. The price for two loungers and an umbrella (October 2025) was €25. The approach is very relaxed, as the price of loungers isn’t posted anywhere. We started by taking two umbrellas, but some people didn’t want them anymore. When the attendant arrived, we only took one without any problems. There was still plenty of space available.
The beach began to fill up between 11:00 and 11:30, and the parking lot was starting to fill up. There’s still plenty of room for everyone, as most of the area is free and open to the public.
Olympic Pool and Sailing Spectacle: A Paradise for Everyone
If you think Prasonisi is only for athletes with boards, you are greatly mistaken! The Mediterranean side is a huge natural pool, perfect for those who simply want to swim.
The water is so crystal clear that you can see everything, and the sand is soft. The water is shallow for a long stretch, so you can walk calmly in the water, but if you decide to swim, its length allows you to do more than the Olympics! It is truly beautiful.
But the attraction doesn’t end here. While you enjoy your swim or walk with water up to your ankles, you have a continuous show at no cost:
- Colored Sails: The whole bay fills with surfers and kiters. Their sails and kites are all colorful, creating a wonderful contrast between the expanse of crystal-clear water and all these lively moving colors.
- Live Lessons: The calm part of the Mediterranean is the training camp. You can see instructors teaching the first steps both on traditional surfing and on Wing Foil boards (the ones with the sail that looks like an wing and lifts you onto the water).
It is an amazing attraction that entertains you continuously, even if you never set foot on a board!
👣 The Walkers’ Paradise: Walking “On Water”
If you are not great lovers of swimming, but your holidays are incomplete without long refreshing walks, Prasonisi is your paradise. It is true, the Mediterranean side is an immense natural pool, but the fantastic thing is its extension. It’s not just about swimming, but about walking!
- Walk on the Beach: Just to walk the length of the Mediterranean beach takes you easily more than 15 minutes. It is ideal for those who love walking with water up to their ankles.
- Total Exploration: You can move from one side of the isthmus to the other and also walk in the center, simultaneously seeing the two seas with their different waves.
- Excursion to the Lighthouse: For those who want a real excursion, with the right sneakers, you can walk the path that leads to the lighthouse on the promontory.
In practice, here you can truly take a 360° view walk, passing between soft sand, water, and paths, having fun even without ever swimming. It is a place that pleases everyone, not just surfers!
🧹 An Honest Note on Cleanliness: Attention to Those Who Love to Walk
Be warned that Prasonisi is an immense, wild beach. While the Mediterranean swimming area is generally clean, if you venture onto the free beach or the isthmus towards the lighthouse, be prepared for some natural debris and potential rubbish. This is an honest trade-off for visiting such a unique and isolated location.
The free beach part and the area exposed to the Aegean wind are less controlled and wilder areas. Unfortunately, the uncivil behavior of some people or natural debris carried by the sea (especially on the Aegean side) means that, in some areas, you might not find 100% cleanliness.
This is a detail to keep in mind especially for those who love walking! If, like us, you are fans of long walks along the isthmus or towards the lighthouse, it is very likely that you will come across some rubbish.
However, I would immediately reassure you: the most well-kept area is the Mediterranean side, where the resort is located and where the swimming activity is concentrated. We, for example, in October, found the sand in this area very clean. The uniqueness of the place wins over everything, but it’s fair to know before venturing into the heart of the free beach.
🍽️ Dining in Prasonisi: Good Moussaka and Honest Prices
After walking, swimming, and enjoying the spectacle, hunger sets in. And I must say that even on the gastronomic front, Prasonisi pleasantly surprised us, especially considering how isolated the place is.
- The Logistics: If you are on the sunbeds on the Mediterranean side, you can reach the area where the services are concentrated in 5 minutes on foot.
- There you will find the taverna Oasis Prasonisi, which offers a bar, a restaurant, and, a golden tip, also the take away option. You can get something to eat and take it directly to your deckchair for a certainly lower cost.
After walking, swimming, and enjoying the spectacle, hunger sets in. And I must say that even on the gastronomic front, Prasonisi pleasantly surprised us. Around 1:30 PM, we headed towards the area where the services are concentrated, which includes a bar and taverna.
Quality and Honest Prices
Considering that we are in a rather isolated place, sometimes restaurateurs take advantage. Instead, here, we found the prices in line with our expectations and had no unpleasant surprises. Indeed, I can say that the Moussaka I ordered was very good for a beach restaurant!
If you want to see it, you can also find it in this short video: Moussaka at Prasonisi.
To give you a precise snapshot of the costs, here are the prices we found on our receipt from October 6, 2025 (issued at 1:43 PM):
| Item | Quantity | Total Price | Unit Price |
| Moussaka | 2 | €27.00 | €13.50 each |
| Gamberi Saganaki | 1 | €16.50 | – |
| Double Hamburger | 1 | €15.80 | – |
| Mythos Megali (Large Beer) | 2 | €10.00 | €5.00 each |
| Large Water / Coca Cola / Pita | 4 | €12.00 | (Various Prices) |
| TOTAL | €81.30 | – |
In short, an excellent meal to recharge your batteries and return to the beach to enjoy the wind and the sea until sunset!
Late Afternoon in Prasonisi: Emotions and Games of Light
Today, October 6, 2025, we came to this wonderful beach and, as a first thing, we admired the meeting between the two seas from the panoramic viewpoint. That is fundamental, because it is right there that you manage to see the beach best, and it is the prelude, the perfect introduction to the uniqueness of this place. I must admit that we saw the difference between the Aegean and the Mediterranean, but the wind was not extremely strong today, so the distinction was not excessively marked. But did this ruin the day? Absolutely not! On the contrary, the more moderate wind allowed us to enjoy the Mediterranean side all day. With such manageable wind, the children were able to play in the water calmly, both in the morning and in the afternoon, making the day fantastic. This place proved to be a true paradise. And now, we don’t want to leave!
It is 5:46 PM, and the sun is setting on the horizon and it’s fantastic. The water is sparkling. The sun sets on the lighthouse side, towards the extreme tip, not on the inner side of Rhodes. Watching the sun go down creates a wonderful spectacle. We manage to observe the Mediterranean Sea beach with the water illuminated by this sun which gradually becomes fainter, but which is still splendid. We even manage to observe it much better. Walking, we enjoy observing and are fascinated by the plays of shadows that are created as we walk on the sand. The sunset light here is magical.
🌅 The Last Emotion: Strategic Sunset and Postcard Photo
The last adventure of the day was not swimming, but the hunt for the perfect sunset, and it was the most exciting experience. Our strategy was targeted and doubly sensible: the weather indicated sunset for 6:45 PM, but we couldn’t wait until the last minute. We moved well in advance, at least half an hour before the indicated time. The reason is crucial: not only to avoid unforeseen events (like the time to wash our feet and get in the car), but because the whole phase in which the sun is setting is beautiful to see! You cannot fully enjoy the spectacle if you arrive at the last moment.
We chose the panoramic viewpoint precisely because it is the only one that allows you to see the two seas, the endless beach, and the sunset in a single, incredible shot.
The Patience that Transforms the Unexpected into a Masterpiece
While we were heading there, we noticed clouds on the horizon. Upon arriving at the panoramic viewpoint, there were those who, disappointed, immediately left. But we, instead, waited.
And we did very well!
It wasn’t the classic sunset we expected, but the sun reappeared through the gaps in the clouds, giving us a fantastic spectacle! In those moments, we took some of the most beautiful photos of the entire vacation: a truly postcard-worthy result! It was proof that planning and patience always pay off, even when the unexpected seems to ruin the plans. An emotion that we will remember for a very long time.

And here lies the true secret of travel: Things and your plans don’t always go as expected. You can’t plan what the sunset or the sky will be like. The secret is precisely to seize the best, appreciate every little moment, and enjoy it without too much disappointment. Planning gets you to the right place at the right time; patience gets you the perfect photo.
💡 Returning from Sunset: The Road in the Dark (and the Isolation)
If you decide, like us, to enjoy the sunset until the last moment, you might worry about returning in the dark. Here is a detailed account of the road:
You must take into account that Prasonisi is a rather isolated beach, and this affects public lighting.
The last piece of road — the one that leads from the main road to the beach parking lot — is not lit. Fortunately, it is asphalted and wide enough, so there are no problems driving it even without lighting. It is a short stretch, taking 5-10 minutes by car.
Attention to municipal savings! Just after this first dark stretch, the road is served by streetlights. However, at 7:15 PM (a quarter past seven in the evening), we noticed that, although there were streetlights, most were not lit. Evidently, in the low season, they are saving money.
Despite these sections, once past the first dark one, the main road becomes well-lit and the return journey continues safely.
📝 Practical Tips for Experiencing Prasonisi at Its Best
To turn your visit to Prasonisi into a success, here is a strategic and logistical summary based on our travel experience.
🏖️ Beach Logistics and Services
Sunbeds and Umbrellas: There is a small, organized sunbed rental area on the protected Mediterranean side where you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas. The cost for a set of two sunbeds and an umbrella was €25 (price confirmed in October 2025). This small organized area is limited to only three rows of sunbeds.

Showers and Changing Rooms: Right behind the beach resort (Mediterranean side) there are changing rooms and showers. In October 2025, the showers were free.
Toilets: Toilets are not visible on the strip of sand, but for necessities, you can use the services of nearby bars and restaurants.
Positioning and Distance: Be careful where you position yourself! If you decide to walk to the end of the free beach (Mediterranean side), to get to the restaurants, walking on the sand, it takes at least 20 minutes on foot. If you are there all day and want to have lunch, consider staying closer to the equipped area.
Free Beach: Prasonisi is predominantly free beach. The parking lot is near bars, restaurants, and minimarkets.

Crowding: If you love peace, take advantage of the morning: crowding begins between 11:00 AM and 11:30 AM.
🍽️ Dining: Quality and Savings
- Reaching the Restaurant: The restaurant area (where Oasis Prasonisi is also located) is about 5 minutes on foot from the central sunbeds.
- Take Away Option: The taverna also offers an excellent take away service. This is the most convenient way to get food and take it directly to the beach.
- Honest Prices: Despite the isolated location, prices are in line with expectations. For example, Moussaka costs €13.50 and the large Mythos Beer €5.00.
🚗 Wind Logistics and Night Return
Lighting: Keep in mind that, even if there are streetlights on the main stretch, sometimes they are not on (due to energy saving), but the main road is still manageable.
Strategic Wind: Check the wind app the night before. The secret is to go when the right wind is blowing, even if not very strong, to see the division of the two seas.
Sunset: Move to the panoramic viewpoint at least half an hour before the sunset time. It allows you to enjoy the entire descending phase of the sun and get the best photos.
Return in the Dark: Driving Safety
Safety Note: Although the road is fully asphalted and wide enough to feel safe, the complete absence of streetlights requires you to rely entirely on your car’s headlights. Anticipating your departure ensures you pass the most isolated section with residual daylight.
The Critical Advice: Based on our experience, we strongly recommend that you do not wait for total darkness to leave. Aim to depart right after the sun sets while the twilight still offers some visibility (as shown in the photo).
The Unlit Stretch: The final stretch of road, which is completely unlit, is short—approximately 5 to 10 minutes of driving. The rest of the main road is wider and generally safer, but visibility is still low outside of towns.

Essential Planning Guide for US/UK Visitors (Logistics & Safety)
This section compiles the key logistical and safety details most relevant to visitors traveling from North America and the UK.
1. Road Conditions and Safety (Getting There)
Road Quality is Excellent: The entire 92 km route from Rhodes Town to Prasonisi is fully paved (asphalted). You will not encounter long, challenging dirt roads that risk damaging your rental car, unlike some other remote Greek beaches. The only unpaved area is the final parking lot near the sand.
–> Watch the video directly on this page, or click here for viewing on YouTube (ideal for mobile users): https://youtu.be/GwlazEcqJao.
Driving Time: Plan for approximately 90 minutes of driving time from Rhodes Town and about 60 minutes from Lindos.
Parking: The parking area is large and free of charge.
Parking Ground: The large, free parking area is made of hard-packed sand/dirt, which is generally safe for parking and is where the paved road ends. Crucial Warning: Although the parking lot is sandy, never attempt to drive your rental car onto the soft, deep sand of the isthmus or the beach, where the risk of getting stuck is extremely high, especially with high wind.
2. On-Site Facilities and Cash (What to Expect)
Toilets / Restrooms: There are no public restrooms directly on the sand strip. Visitors should plan to use the facilities provided by the nearby bars and tavernas (such as Oasis Prasonisi) located next to the main parking area.
Basic Showers & Changing Area: Essential facilities are available behind the small beach resort section (Mediterranean side). The showers are very basic—essentially just a pipe attached to a wooden post—and the changing area is a simple wooden cabin. They are functional for rinsing off after a day at the beach. Based on our Oct 2025 visit, the showers were free.
Sunbed Prices & Flexibility (No Price List): The sunbed prices are not explicitly displayed, which often leads to traveler anxiety about inflated costs (especially if accustomed to places like Mykonos). However, the staff is very flexible. We found the price for a set of two sunbeds and an umbrella to be €25—a highly reasonable price for Rhodes. You can comfortably settle, wait for the attendant, confirm the price, and then decide. In our case, though two sets were available, we were easily allowed to rent only one umbrella set, even in October.
Cash is Essential (Connection Issues): Highly advisable to bring sufficient cash (Euros). We paid for sunbeds and umbrellas (€25 set) exclusively with cash. While the restaurant accepted credit cards later in the day, cellular data signal can be weak or absent in the morning. This lack of connection may prevent mobile card machines from working. Always carry cash for sunbeds and early purchases, just in case. There are no ATMs in the immediate vicinity.
3. Water Safety and Supervision (Lifeguards)
No Lifeguards: Being a vast and remote natural beach, lifeguard surveillance is limited or non-existent on the free beach areas. Exercise caution, particularly on the Aegean side where waves can be large.
Safety & Visibility (The “Natural Pool”): The Mediterranean side offers exceptionally safe swimming conditions. The water is crystal clear, and the sand bottom is light and visible for a long distance. Since the water remains shallow far from the shore, you can walk slowly, seeing everything around you. You can swim with confidence; typically, there are no jellyfish or dangerous marine life to worry about.
Children’s Safety: The Mediterranean side is shallow and calm (a “natural pool”) and safe for children only with constant and direct parental supervision. Do not rely on external beach attendants for monitoring.
4. Windsurfing and Kitesurfing Utility
Easy Rental Access: Equipment rental and instruction schools are numerous and easily found directly on the beach.

Know Your Side: The beach is perfectly split for ability: Mediterranean side (calm/flat water) is ideal for beginners and lessons; the Aegean side (choppy water/waves) is for advanced riders. Check a wind app like Windy before your drive to ensure the wind is blowing from the Northwest (the “right” wind).
❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about Prasonisi
Here you will find quick answers about the services, logistics, and suitability of the beach, based on our experience in October 2025.
Prassonissi or Prasonisi?
They are the same thing, a double transliteration of the Greek name. Both names are accepted and understood.
When is the best time for surfing?
The months of July and August offer the strongest and most constant Meltemi wind, making them ideal for windsurfing and kitesurfing.
Is the beach suitable for families?
Yes, the eastern side (Mediterranean) is often calm and more sheltered, making it suitable for swimming with children. However, the area is very exposed to the wind, so be prepared accordingly.
🏖️ Is Prasonisi equipped? How Much Do Sunbeds and Umbrellas Cost?
Yes, the beach is partially equipped: The beach resort is located on the Mediterranean Sea side, the most protected one. The cost for a set of two sunbeds and an umbrella is €25 (price detected in early October 2025).
Is there a Free Beach at Prasonisi?
Absolutely yes. Despite the presence of the resort, most of Prasonisi beach is free and public. The sunbeds and umbrellas you can rent occupy only a small portion of the immense strip of sand (about three rows), leaving ample space for those who prefer the free option.
🚽 Are there Public Toilets (WC) on the Beach?
No, the actual toilets are not visible on the strip of sand and are not present as a direct public structure. Solution: However, for every necessity, the bars and restaurants are located in the immediate vicinity of the parking lot and are always available.
👶 Is Prasonisi Beach Safe for Children?
Yes, but constant adult supervision is essential: Ideal Conditions: The Mediterranean Sea side (resort side) is very calm. The water is shallow for a long stretch, almost like a natural pool. With moderate wind, children can play in the water calmly all day. Important Safety Warning: Being an immense and rather isolated beach, surveillance by attendants is limited or non-existent. For this reason, even if the water is shallow, parental supervision is absolutely indispensable.
🚿 Does Prasonisi Have Free Showers and Changing Rooms?
Yes, these services are available and convenient: Showers and Changing Rooms: There are changing rooms and showers right behind the beach resort. Cost: In our experience in October 2025, the showers were free.
🌬️ Prasonisi Strategy: When to Arrive for the Wind and Sunset?
Arrive early, around 10:00 AM for free parking and quiet. Wind: Check the wind app the night before! You must aim for the “right” wind (from the North-West) even if moderate, to see the division of the two seas. Sunset: Move to the panoramic viewpoint at least half an hour before the marked time (e.g., 6:45 PM) to enjoy the entire descending phase of the sun and the best photos.
