Ornos Mykonos Guide: Sunbed Prices (€50-100), Free Beach Map, & Budget Tips

Ornos Mykonos is one of the island’s most popular locations, situated in the southwest, just a short distance from Mykonos Town. It’s a beach with soft sand and calm, transparent waters, well-protected from the northerly winds. Our experience, lived out in the middle of August, proves that Ornos is a valid choice, offering a lively atmosphere and accessible services while maintaining high standards.

Pros and Cons of Ornos Beach

Every beach has its unique characteristics. Here’s what to expect at Ornos Mykonos, based on our observations.

The Pros

The Cons

A perfect slice of Ornos Beach: enjoy the beautiful crystalline water and comfortable loungers, set against the backdrop of a charming traditional boat. Note how the water reaches close to the sunbeds, limiting walking space on the sand.

The Evening Experience: Romantic Dinner and Magical Atmosphere

As the sun sets, the atmosphere transforms. We arrived right at the end of the sunset hour, which is not directly visible from this bay, but you can certainly perceive its stunning colors and shades. The beach bars turn into elegant and welcoming venues, offering a wide choice ranging from high-end cuisine to slightly more accessible restaurants. As you dine, you can admire the bay, which, as the evening progresses, fills with the colored lights of the anchored boats. Even in high season, like August, it’s possible to find a table without a reservation, especially for a party of two.

Ornos Beach: Prices and Useful Information

Your detailed breakdown of costs, verified during our trip in August 2025.

Sunbed & Umbrella Cost (2025 Verified)

At Ornos, prices are often more accessible compared to other luxury beaches in Mykonos (like Psarou).

CRITICAL PRICE TIP: SEASONAL HIKES Be aware that prices increase significantly between peak months. We observed a €10 increase per set (sunbed + umbrella) when comparing the end of July (e.g., July 30th) to the beginning of August (e.g., August 1st) at the same establishment. Always double-check the date on the price board.

Restaurant and Food Prices: Menus & Budget Alternatives

Restaurant and cocktail prices are generally in line with Mykonos standards, but accessible budget options exist:

Here is the detailed menu from Kostantis Beach Restaurant (The Beachfront Club):

Proof of price: The actual menu from the beachfront restaurant (Kostantis) connected to the sunbed area, verifying the food and drink costs you would pay while on the beach.

Here are some prices from the Porto Ornos Restaurant Menu (The Roadside Option):

Porto Ornos Restaurant: The Value Trade-Off

Porto Ornos is an excellent choice for food quality and value. We personally ate here and found the food to be excellent, fresh (especially the seafood, like the large shrimp salad), and the portions were generous. The atmosphere is pleasant, with nice wooden tables in the outdoor area.

CRITICAL FACTOR (Traffic Noise): If you visit during peak lunch hours (1:00 PM onwards), the area gets busy. Since the restaurant is right on the roadside next to the bus stop, you will encounter car traffic and bus noise while eating. This may be a drawback for those seeking a quiet, beachside atmosphere. If traffic noise is a concern, choose the pricier beach club. If you prioritize saving money and getting excellent food, Porto Ornos is a strong recommendation.

The Packed Lunch Dilemma: Can You Eat Your Own Food?

Ornos Mykonos, with its elegant beach bars, brings up a common question for tourists: is it okay to bring your own food? Our experience confirms a strict policy and provides a crucial warning:

Crucially, most beach clubs prohibit consuming food or drinks brought from outside (e.g., sandwiches from a bakery or supermarket), even if you have paid the high fee (€60-€80+) for your sunbeds.

Our Crucial E-E-A-T Warning (Avoid the Scene)

The rule itself is often not clearly visible. You might be focused on the sunbed price, missing the smaller print below that states, “No outside food or drinks.” We personally experienced this: despite being paying clients (and having dined at the restaurant the night before), staff approached us mid-lunch and, without courtesy or verbal explanation, simply pointed to the fine print on the price sign.

The Takeaway:

  1. Check the Fine Print: Always look for additional rules written below the main sunbed prices before you pay.
  2. Move to the Free Beach: If you want to enjoy your budget-friendly packed lunch, you must move to the small, public free beach area to consume it.

Knowing this custom in advance prevents an unpleasant and awkward interaction, ensuring your day remains stress-free.

Free Beach: A Limited Space

If you’re looking for an unequipped spot, you should know that the free beach area at Ornos Mykonos is very small. It’s a strip of sand found mainly at the ends of the bay. However, we noted that even in the middle of August, arriving right at 10:00 AM (when the clubs open), it was still possible to find a small, vacant spot in the free area. In this video, I’ll show you the portion of the free beach: https://youtu.be/mYm2qwwPZ0I?si=6eGG2UyxxDCiR1pQ&t=118.

Other Practical Information

Transportation and Parking: Ornos is extremely easy to reach. There’s a bus stop right in front of the beach. For those arriving by car, paid parking is available, such as the Valet Parking, where for €10 per day you can use a covered spot, which is a great bonus for keeping your car cool and protected from the hot Greek sun. The parking “al zuma” accepts card payments, unlike some others that only take cash.

Covered parking: Valet Parking (€10), a key feature for keeping your car cool and protected from the Greek sun.

Hours and Availability: Beach clubs usually open at 10:00 AM. We highly recommend arriving between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM, even in high season (August), as you do not need a reservation. The only rows that were consistently pre-booked were the very first and second rows. If you arrive early, you can almost always find excellent sunbeds available from the third row back without having to book days in advance. Arriving too late (after 1:00 PM) makes finding any spot without a reservation difficult.

You can see the price changes and confirmation that sunbeds were available without a reservation in the third row and beyond in our video here: https://youtu.be/6M0mtTsFgWU?t=96.

📅 Our Experience: The Story of Ila and Gabriel at Ornos Beach

We visited Ornos Beach on three different days during our August 2025 vacation, experiencing the bay’s evolution from quiet morning bliss to lively afternoon party. Ila and Gabriel developed a genuine strategy for enjoying Mykonos to the fullest, keeping an eye on both comfort and budget.

Our Approach: Three Days, Three Experiences

Friday, August 1st: The First Taste and the Free Beach

Our first visit to Ornos was on August 1st. Having planned other activities for the afternoon, we decided to spend only half a day at the seaside. For this quick stop, we chose the simplest and free option: the free beach area. As you can see from the photos, the non-equipped space is limited, but the water is still exceptional. It was an ideal choice for a quick swim and to “get a feel” for the prices of the beach establishments.

Sunday, August 3rd: The Debut in Comfort and the Sandwich Dilemma

On the morning of August 3rd, leaving from the Ano Mera area, we immediately stopped at one of the countless bakeries along the road. These bakeries are a real gold mine in Mykonos: we got breakfast and two very large sandwiches for only 19 euros!

Logistics and Service

After a brief stop at the supermarket, we parked at the Valet Parking for 10 euros. The great advantage is that it is covered (the one named “al zuma”), keeping the car in the shade and allowing card payment.

We opted for the Kostantis establishment, which represents an excellent compromise between high quality and more contained costs. We paid 70€ for two very comfortable sunbeds and an umbrella.

Morning Paradise and Crystal Clear Water

At 10:00 AM, the beach is a true paradise. We immediately took a long walk along the shore, which is composed of sand and fine pebbles that aren’t bothersome. The characteristic Greek boats anchored in front, far from being a disturbance, enrich the panorama.

The water is crystal clear and shallow, a real natural pool. The only note is that the shoreline is very narrow, with the water reaching very close to the sunbeds. In the water, watch out for the small fish that try to gently “nibble” your legs – a fun, but typical, experience of the place!

The Vibe: Ornos vs. Platis Gialos

Towards noon, the beach livens up with soft music. We noticed that Ornos, while busy, has a more relaxed tone. The crowd is varied: families, couples, and older people. This is in stark contrast to what we had seen at Platis Gialos, where the “show” of seeing groups of girls posing and seeking the most exclusive spots to make an impression was evident. The sea is beautiful everywhere in Mykonos; the atmosphere makes the difference.

Wednesday, August 6th: Strategic Return and Full Service

We chose to return to Ornos on August 6th, just before leaving, for strategic reasons:

  1. Shelter from the Wind: That day a strong north wind (Meltemi) was blowing. Ornos, being a bay facing south, is very sheltered, and swimming was very pleasant, without waves.
  2. Superior Care and Cleanliness: We generally noticed greater care and cleanliness of the establishments here in Ornos. In contrast, at beaches like Platis Gialos and Paraga, we had encountered much less attention to cleanliness despite the high costs.

This time, we made the opposite choice: instead of bringing sandwiches, we had lunch and ordered directly from the Kostantis menu, taking advantage of the full service under the umbrella.

Although the beach is a quiet paradise in the morning, now, at 4 PM, the contrast is evident: there are many more people, the music is loud, and it is truly a party. This lively ending confirmed that Ornos is a beach that knows how to offer both relaxation and fun.

Conclusion and Recommendations

Ornos Mykonos is a strategic choice for anyone who wants to enjoy the beauty of Mykonos without the stress of a “sunbed race” and with a more mindful approach to their budget. Our advice is to arrive in the morning to enjoy maximum tranquility and the clearest water, and then perhaps stay for an aperitif or lunch at one of the many local venues.

FAQs

What is the price range for sunbeds and umbrellas at Ornos Beach?

The price range for two sunbeds and one umbrella typically starts from €50-€60 in the back rows and can go up to €100 for premium spots in the first row at high-end beach clubs.

Is there a free or public beach area at Ornos Mykonos?

Yes, but it is very limited. The free beach area consists of a small strip of sand, mostly located at the ends of the bay, as most of the central beach is occupied by sunbeds from the beach clubs.

Can I bring my own food (packed lunch) to Ornos Beach?

Yes, you can bring a packed lunch, but be warned: you cannot consume it at your paid sunbed. Most beach clubs at Ornos strictly prohibit consuming outside food or drinks, even if you paid for the sunbed rental (€60-€100). If you want to eat your own packed lunch, you must move to the small, public free beach area to do so. Always check the fine print on the price sign to avoid uncomfortable interactions with staff.

When is the best time to visit Ornos Beach for a quiet experience?

For maximum tranquility and the clearest water, the best time to visit is early in the morning, right when the beach clubs open (around 10:00 AM). A major advantage of Ornos is that if you arrive between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM, you can easily secure sunbeds without a reservation, even in August (only the first two rows tend to be pre-booked).
