The Unforgettable Beaches of Lindos, Rhodes
Lindos and its surroundings offer a diverse coastline, with each beach providing a unique experience. Whether you’re looking for vibrant family fun, a serene escape, or a picturesque backdrop for a special moment, you’ll find it here.
🏖️ Lindos Main Beach (Megali Paralia): The Iconic Choice
Lindos Main Beach, known locally as Megali Paralia (Big Beach), is the most famous and easily accessible shoreline in the area. Its long stretch of soft, golden sand and calm, shallow turquoise waters make it an idyllic spot for all visitors—from sunbathers and swimmers to families with young children.
This beach offers a beautiful blend of convenience and classic Grecian scenery:
- Stunning Views: The beach provides an iconic postcard view, dominated by the majestic Acropolis of Lindos perched on the hill above. This backdrop is truly breathtaking and highly Instagrammable.
- Family-Friendly: The gentle, gradual slope into the sea makes the water exceptionally safe and perfect for children.
- Well-Organized & Affordable: Compared to St. Paul’s Bay, this beach is generally more accessible and budget-friendly. You will find plenty of organized sections with sunbeds and umbrellas for rent, typically priced around €20 for a set of two sunbeds and an umbrella (as observed in the 2025 season).

Shape and Accessibility
From an aerial perspective, the beach’s expansive nature is immediately evident. It boasts a beautiful crescent shape, which allows it to be quite extensive, accommodating a large number of visitors while maintaining plenty of space.

This beach offers a diverse range of amenities, catering to every need:
- Services Galore: The beachfront is highly developed. You will find several traditional tavernas, casual beach bars, and cafes situated directly on the sand, perfect for enjoying a meal or a drink with your feet almost in the water. Furthermore, there are other restaurants and services just across the road, adding to the variety available.
- Organized vs. Free: Lindos Main Beach perfectly balances organization and accessibility. While a large section is well-organized with plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas for rent (typically priced around €20 for a set in the 2025 season), there is also a designated free area where you can lay down your own towel and enjoy the beach without any rental cost.
Free Beach Space
Lindos Main Beach perfectly balances organization and accessibility. While the prime beachfront is generally occupied by sunbeds and umbrellas for rent, there are ample free beach areas available. These unorganized spaces are typically located directly behind the rental rows. You are welcome to lay down your own towel and enjoy the sand and sea completely free of charge. This ensures that everyone can access the beautiful beach, whether they choose to pay for amenities or not.

Amenities and Activities Hub
The beachfront is lined with numerous traditional tavernas, casual beach bars, and cafes, offering delicious Greek cuisine, snacks, and refreshing drinks. This beach is fully organized, offering numerous sunbeds and umbrellas for rent, along with a wide selection of beach bars and restaurants. It is also the area’s central hub for activities.
The northern end of the beach is also where the action is:
- Boat Excursions: Crucially, while Lindos Main Beach is the larger destination, the main jetty for boat trips and sea excursions to nearby spots like St. Paul’s Bay and the sea caves is located at the adjacent Pallas Beach. Visitors can easily access the pier by continuing along the shore, and for simplicity, the entire area is often collectively referred to as the main hub for sea excursions.
- Water Sports: Water sports like pedal boats and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) are readily available.
Conclusion: If your priority is a long, accessible stretch of sand with lots of services, tavernas, and entertainment at a more reasonable price point, Lindos Main Beach is your best choice over the smaller, more exclusive bays. It’s a short, easy walk from the Lindos village center, with parking available nearby.
Parking Fee: Note on Parking: The main parking areas serving the village charge a fee. Based on observations in October 2025, the daily rate for a car was €7.00. Payment is required upon arrival and is handled by dedicated attendants at a designated booth or desk near the entrance to the parking area.
Pallas Beach: A Quieter Neighbor and Excursion Hub
Nestled in the same bay as Lindos Main Beach, Pallas Beach is a slightly smaller and often more serene alternative. It shares the same fine golden sand and clear, shallow waters, making it equally suitable for families. Pallas Beach is conveniently located near traditional tavernas and is also a hub for watersports.

Location Note: Pallas Beach is the smaller of the two major beaches in Lindos Bay, easily identifiable from the spectacular viewpoint overlooking Lindos village and the Acropolis. It appears as the more central, smaller cove situated right next to the larger Main Beach.
Crucially, Pallas Beach serves as the central hub for local sea travel. The main jetty (pier) for tourist boats, excursion vessels, and coastal cruises is located here, making this the primary departure point for those wishing to explore the stunning coastline, Navarone Bay, or nearby sea caves by boat. The beach itself is well-equipped with services including sunbeds and umbrellas.
Key Features:
- Excursion Hub: Location of the main jetty (pier) for booking and departing on tourist boat excursions and coastal cruises.
- Shallow Waters: Excellent for young children and those who prefer to stay close to shore.
- Proximity to Tavernas: Enjoy a meal with a view after a day in the sun.
- Watersports: Canoe and water bike rentals are available.
- Sea Caves: Explore intriguing sea caves nearby, perfect for swimming and snorkeling.
💎 St. Paul’s Bay: A Picturesque and Romantic Escape
Named after the Apostle Paul, who is said to have landed here in 43 AD, St. Paul’s Bay is a truly enchanting spot. This sheltered, heart-shaped bay, almost fully enclosed by dramatic rock formations, truly feels like a hidden paradise—a precious gem nestled right at the foot of the magnificent Acropolis of Lindos.

The setting is pure Greek fantasy:
- Scenography: The Acropolis, with its towering, fortified walls, stands guard directly above the bay, creating a castle-like backdrop for your swim. The water is consistently crystal-clear and turquoise, ideal for swimming and snorkeling.
- History: A charming, small white chapel by the water’s edge marks the historical significance and adds a profound romantic ambiance, making the bay a popular spot for weddings.
- Accessibility: Despite its secluded feel, this picturesque cove is just a short, scenic walk from the main Lindos village.
Premium Experience and Practical Tips
Due to its unparalleled, exclusive setting, St. Paul’s Bay offers a premium beach experience. The main stretch of sand is fully organized, providing services like sunbed and umbrella rentals.
Cost Note: Expect rental costs here to be notably higher than the Rhodes average, reflecting the exclusivity and world-class location of the bay. For context, prices observed in October 2025 for a set of two sunbeds and an umbrella ranged between €60 and €70 per day.

Sun Tip: Arrive Early! Because the bay is so deeply recessed and surrounded by high cliffs, the sun tends to disappear relatively early. We strongly recommend arriving in the morning to maximize your sunbathing time. In the shoulder season (late September/early October), the beach can be entirely shaded by mid-to-late afternoon (around 5 PM).
Dining and Low-Cost Alternatives
For those seeking luxury, the bay is home to exceptional, upscale dining options (such as Tambakio) situated directly on the water, offering a sophisticated and highly scenic meal perfect for a romantic occasion.
If you prefer to enjoy the scenery without the premium price tag, you can head to the adjacent, smaller, free beach area (Mikros Gialos). While space is limited, you are welcome to lay down your own towel here and still enjoy the magnificent Acropolis backdrop and clear waters. This area often has a small beach bar nearby for refreshments.
🍽️ Tambakio Restaurant & Beach: Premium Seaside Dining
Located directly on the water in the secluded St. Paul’s Bay, Tambakio offers a refined, high-level Mediterranean/Greek culinary experience with a strong focus on fresh seafood, making it an ideal choice for a special occasion or a romantic evening.
The atmosphere is elegant, the setting is highly scenic, and the cuisine reflects a commitment to fresh, quality ingredients.
Cuisine Highlights and Price Idea (Mid-to-High Range):
- Starters & Appetizers: The menu features classic Greek dips like Tzatziki (€9.00) alongside sophisticated options such as Fried Calamari (around €22.00) and refined Tuna Carpaccio (€24.00).
- Main Courses (Seafood & Pasta): Focus is given to seafood and pasta, with dishes like Seafood Risotto or Prawn Linguine averaging around €26.00. Tuna Steak and Salmon Fillet are also available (€26.00 – €28.00). Note: Fresh whole fish is sold by weight (A KG), which can significantly increase the final bill.
- Meat Options: High-quality cuts are available, including Lamb Casserole (€32.00) and Rib-Eye Black Angus (€44.00).
- Dessert: Classic desserts like Lemon Cheesecake and Tiramisu are priced around €9.00 – €10.00.
Estimated Budget for Two:
Tambakio is firmly positioned in the mid-to-high price range. For a standard dinner for two (e.g., shared starter, two main courses, shared dessert, and local wine/drinks), the estimated cost ranges between €105.00 and €120.00. This budget is easily exceeded if you opt for fresh fish by weight or premium wine selections.
Our Personal Note: We want to be transparent that we did not have the opportunity to try the dishes ourselves. However, the location—right on the edge of St. Paul’s Bay—is absolutely stunning and incredibly inviting. Making a reservation here will definitely be a priority for our next visit to Lindos!
Disclaimer on Pricing: All observed dishes and prices were noted at the end of September 2025. Please be aware that the menu, prices, and availability may change over time or seasonally. This information is provided to give you a reliable price idea for planning purposes.
🏖️ Vlicha Bay Beach (Paralia Vlicha): Serenity North of Lindos
Vlicha Bay Beach, also known as Paralia Vlicha, is situated just a few kilometers north of Lindos. It is a long and beautiful stretch of sand and pebbles that stands out for offering a distinctly more relaxed atmosphere compared to the busier, central beaches near the village. Awarded the prestigious Blue Flag for the high quality of its waters and services, Vlicha is considered a true oasis of peace.
Its length and generally less-crowded nature allow for ample space to spread out and relax. The waters are transparent, and bathing conditions are often calm as the bay is naturally sheltered from the winds.
Regarding the shoreline, while it is composed of small pebbles, walking on it is comfortable and not bothersome. This is because underneath the pebbles, there is coarse sand, which provides cushioning and makes walking easier, even without beach shoes. While walking on fine sand is arguably better, the experience here is not painful or overly annoying.
This beach is well-equipped and is home to several luxury hotels and resorts, such as the 5-star Lindos Bay Hotel, which overlooks the shoreline. For guests of these accommodations, it is a great benefit to have sunbeds and umbrellas included in the stay. A particularly useful service offered from this beach is the water taxi (boat) service directly to Rhodes Town. This option is perfect for those who are a bit older or simply wish to reach the capital by sea, enjoying a scenic journey as an alternative to driving.
🚗 Access and Parking
A notable advantage of Vlicha Bay is the ease of access and parking. Being located outside the main built-up area of Lindos, parking is generally available and free of charge in this area, which is a significant benefit compared to more central or crowded locations.
🌅 Vlicha Bay in Late September/Early October: The Off-Season Experience
The period between late September and early October is a magical time to visit Vlicha. The beach is noticeably quieter, and one can fully enjoy the sound of the sea, with the noise of the waves breaking, all framed by a beautiful surrounding headland.

Unlike other locations, swimming at Vlicha is absolutely possible even during this period. The water is transparent and incredibly inviting, proving to be quite mild and not cold at all. Although fewer people swim early in the morning (like at 10:00 AM), getting into the water is easy and pleasant; the water is so agreeable that it is often difficult to want to get out! You can even spot small fish swimming near the water’s edge.
Sea conditions vary depending on the wind: sometimes it is very calm, while other times, if the day is slightly breezy (as on September 30th), the sea can be a bit choppy. In any case, swimming is always highly recommended.
One important note is the seabed: at Vlicha, the floor slopes quite rapidly after the first few meters from the entrance, quickly becoming deep. While there is a safe space for swimming near the shore, this characteristic makes it more suitable for older children who swim well, rather than very small children who would require constant supervision.
🍽️ Dining and Cuisine on the Beach
Vlicha Bay offers various dining options, thanks to the presence of beachside restaurants and cafes, and especially the hotel restaurants that look directly onto the coastline. Having the chance to dine with a sea view, whether during the day or in the evening, is certainly a great advantage.
Off-season dining allows one to fully enjoy local specialties with flexibility in dish selection. Dining at the seaside restaurants in late September, with milder, less intensely hot temperatures than the peak season, allows for choosing more substantial and flavorful meals, such as a mixed meat grill with pita, fries, and vegetables, which makes for a great start to the week, unlike in August, when one might prefer lighter options like Greek salads or fish.
🚶 Accessibility and Evening Strolls
An additional feature that enhances the visitor experience at Vlicha Bay Beach is the presence of walkways (passerelle) installed over the stones for a significant stretch of the shore.
These walkways, typically made of wood or a similar material, allow guests to walk along the beach comfortably, even if they are not wearing appropriate footwear for pebbles. This is particularly appreciated in the evening: if you are dressed up to go to one of the beachside restaurants or just want to take a gentle stroll to enjoy the moon and the sea without stepping directly on the stones, these walkways provide the perfect solution. You can comfortably enjoy a short walk to admire the beautiful evening setting without getting your feet sandy or bruised.
☀️ The Sun’s Journey and a Personal Preference for the View
The sun’s journey over Vlicha Bay is quite distinct: while the sunrise appears beautifully in front (peeking from behind the headland to the right), the afternoon sun actually sets behind the beach. This practical detail means many people eventually turn their chairs away from the water to tan, but for me, the emotional draw of the sea is simply too strong.

I found myself choosing to keep facing the water, even in the late afternoon, because watching the waves, observing the little boats pass, and soaking in the general beach life was a captivating and moving experience that I prioritized over sun exposure. Beyond that afternoon serenity, waking up to see the sunrise from the hotel overlooking the bay was absolutely fantastic and an unforgettable, truly emotional highlight of the trip.
